REUS JAZZ CAVA: Alba Careta | 2024-04-07
ALBA CARETA GROUP at the Reus Jazz Cava
With three albums published as the leader of her quintet, trumpeter and singer Alba Careta (Avinyó, 1995) has accumulated many accolades, among which the AMJM Young Talent Award 2023 (Association of Jazz Musicians and Modern Music de Catalunya), the Alícia Award for Emerging Talent 2023 (Catalan Academy of Music), the ARC Award for Best Jazz Group Tour 2023 and two Enderrock Awards for Best Jazz Disc, one in 2018 for Orígens, his album of debut, and the other in 2023 by Teia, work that is currently being presented. Alba Careta Group's music has been heard in numerous international jazz venues and festivals in Spain, the Netherlands, Germany, Switzerland and Austria, among others.
Teia is resinous wood or a splinter of it that burns easily. This is the title of the quintet's third album, a collection of six own compositions and two very soulful versions of Catalan music of the new song, always faithful to the explosive, energetic and organic jazz that characterizes the group.
The concept of Teia encompasses the different struggles and convictions that make up the imagery of this new album: the internal conflicts we all experience between what is imposed on us and what we really believe and want for ourselves; the experience of coming to understand that, sometimes, intuition and effort are the flame that guides us to find our own path, the authentic one; and how important it is to take care of the simple and small things that surround us, and that in the end become the bonfire that accompanies us, inspires us and comforts us.
The Reus Jazz Cava opens its doors to five of the fittest and most promising young musicians of the moment: Alba Careta, trumpet and voice; Lucas Martínez, tenor sax; Roger Santacana, piano; Giuseppe Campisi, double bass; and Josep Cordobés, drums. The Alba Careta Group concert will take place on Sunday, April 7, at 7pm at the El Castell Cultural Center in Reus. Then there will be a jam session open to all musicians who want to participate.
